Original leaded windows that have a few years on them will often have loose or rattling glass, weaker or even cracked solder joints and/or fragile lead cames. All of these are indicators that time has got the better of your window. Leaded and stained glass restoration can give your leaded windows a new lease of life – up to 100 years!

At Sherriff Stained Glass Specialists our stained and leaded windows are always produced using traditional techniques and materials so that the traditional look can be re-created for the modern world and its different living requirements without compromising on its longevity.

If your stained glass windows feature any cracked or broken glass panels we replace them by matching glass from our workshop; we have an extensive range so don’t worry about that. Sometimes we’ve even had to repair windows with missing lead cames and panels! Just take a look at the images below of a school window that had an unfortunate incident with a football.

If you need new leaded lights we can emulate whatever period you’d like to recreate through careful glass selection. We’ll also include internal strengthening bars within the lead cames so that your leaded window can withstand greater things.

External strengthening bars that have been around for a while are most likely rusting by now due to their mild steel composition. This rusting can prove to be a great problem, particularly with a leaded window placed within stonework. At the Sherriff Stained Glass Specialists workshop we can replace these external strengthening bars with one of three options:

• Lead Covered Mild Steel for extra protection against rust
• Stainless Steel for inherent rust prevention
• Phosphor Bronze for little to no maintenance.
